Enhancing Welding Performance with Unlimited Beam Shape Options

Presented by: Eyal Shekel, Civan Lasers

The development of laser welding technology has seen significant advancements in recent years. With the introduction of dynamic beam lasers based on coherent beam combining (CBC), new possibilities are available. This presentation explores the key features of dynamic beam lasers, highlighting their potential in welding applications.

Dynamic beam lasers offer unparalleled versatility, allowing users to generate a wide range of arbitrary beam shapes effortlessly. With a user-friendly software interface, custom beam shapes can be created in a matter of minutes, offering unprecedented flexibility in laser welding processes. Additionally, these lasers enable precise control over the shape frequency, spanning from 1Hz to 40MHz. This frequency flexibility opens new possibilities for optimizing welding parameters to suit specific materials and applications. Moreover, dynamic beam lasers excel in their rapid beam shape sequencing capability, enabling seamless transitions between different shapes within microseconds.

Furthermore, these lasers offer focus steering at frequencies of up to 40MHz, enhancing the precision and speed of laser welding by enabling dynamic focal point adjustments. Dynamic beam lasers offer spatial and temporal control on the thermal gradient as well as superior control of the melt pool fluid dynamics hence they are able to offer new possibilities in laser welding.

About the presenter
Eyal ShekelEyal Shekel, Ph.D., is the founder and CEO of Civan Lasers, the first company to develop industrial lasers based on coherent beam combining. Prior to Civan, Shekel founded Cielo, a leading company in the manufacture of fiber optical gyros and navigation systems, and he was founder and general manager of Chiaro Networks, which developed the largest optical switch in the world. He received his doctorate in physics at New York University.
