Solving Complex Design and Manufacturing Challenges with Polymer Optics

Presented by: Mike O’Keefe, Greenlight Optics

Polymer Optics are addressing key challenges in product development across multiple industries. The ability to seamlessly integrate multiple capabilities (opto-mech design, diamond turning, molding, metrology) and iterate product and process in real time is key to overcoming challenges and enabling optical hardware to move quickly from concepts on the computer screen to products in the real world. O’Keefe guides viewers through several real-world examples and reveals a cutting-edge process that leverages integrated capabilities to manufacture polymer freeform optics, precision mirrors, prisms, aspheres, lens arrays, and optical assemblies, tackling complex design and production challenges across high-tech industries.

About the presenter
Mike O’KeefeMichael O’Keefe is a 30-year veteran in the optics industry, serving as co-founder and managing partner of Greenlight Optics. Michael has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from The Ohio State University and a Master's in Business Administration from Xavier University. In 1994, O’Keefe joined US Precision Lens (Corning subsidiary) as a projection lens quality engineer. He became sales engineer for the polymer optics business unit and later led the manufacturing of polymer optical components mold tooling and diamond turning.

US Precision Lens was acquired by 3M in 2002. O’Keefe was responsible for the polymer optics advanced optical solutions group, including developing, marketing, and commercializing the miniature LCOS projection engine that won a Gold Edison award. In 2009, he co-founded Greenlight Optics and helped grow the business to become a leader in custom polymer optics, projection engines, and optical assemblies. His primary role is to be the bridge connecting each customer’s optical requirements with Greenlight Optics development and manufacturing capabilities.
