Lasers in Health and Medicine
Presented by:
Nathan Brouwer, MKS OphirLaser usage in health and medicine has grown to touch nearly every branch of medical surgery and biological science. This session provides an overview of many of the laser applications in medical surgery centers, doctors' offices, and even at home for some biohackers. Brouwer discusses the laser calculations needed to estimate power density, a key metric to understand when delivering photons to human tissue.
About the presenterNathan Brouwer graduated with a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Hampshire. He spent a year in the semiconductor industry at Texas Instruments. He then began to work at MKS Instruments (formerly Newport Corporation). Since 2020, Brouwer covers the San Francisco Bay Area territory as the sales manager for the MKS Ophir brand, supporting medical and industrial laser markets with power measurements and beam profiling demos.
