Tipping Point: How Hyperspectral Imaging Is Disrupting Industrial Inspection
Presented by:
Barry McDonogh, Hinalea ImagingHyperspectral imaging (HSI) is not a new technology. In fact, the first hyperspectral image was taken over 100 years ago. The mass adoption of HSI has been limited by three primary factors: (1) the cost of HSI systems, which historically have run from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars; (2) the form factor of HSI sensors, which have typically required accompanying stages; and (3) the size of the hyperspectral data cubes generated by HSI systems, which are incredible computationally heavy.
All in all, these factors have combined to confine HSI to the domain of research laboratories, rather than broad adoption in commercial settings. In this presentation, McDonogh reviews how the barriers to widespread implementation listed above are falling, and how the advent of low-cost, high performance HSI systems are changing industrial inspection forever.
