Yücel focuses on progress made at the Neurophotonics Center of Boston University toward "neuroscience in the everyday world."
About the presenterMeryem Ayse Yücel is a research assistant professor at the Neurophotonics Center at Boston University and is an active contributor to the evolving field of fNIRS research. She has directed and performed numerous fNIRS human imaging studies at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and at the Neurophotonics Center at Boston University. Yücel has been involved in fNIRS applications such as fNIRS assessment of pain during surgery and bedside monitoring of patients with epilepsy. She has also been involved in developing advanced fNIRS signal-processing algorithms that focus on the removal of systemic physiology and motion artifacts, and in advancing fNIRS analysis to more robustly classify brain response at single trial level in a general linear model context. She is a senior developer of HOMER3 and AtlasViewer, software applications for fNIRS data analysis. Yücel's current research interests span functional neuroimaging and cognitive neuroscience.
