Accurate Pulse-to-Pulse Energy Measurements for High Power Lasers
Presented by:
Félicien Legrand, Gentec-EOHigh average power pulsed lasers are widely used in industrial, medical, and research applications, where pulse-to-pulse energy stability is critical for process quality, safety, and compliance. Accurately measuring individual pulses at high repetition rates introduces challenges related to thermal loading, detector damage thresholds, inline beam sampling, and system integration.
This presentation reviews best practices for pulse-to-pulse energy measurement in high-average-power laser systems, including product selection, optical pickoff strategies, and methods to minimize system downtime. Integration options for real-time monitoring, PC-based control, and on-site display will be discussed, along with calibration and traceability considerations aligned with ISO 17025 and regulatory requirements such as FDA. The talk provides practical guidance for implementing reliable, production-ready laser energy monitoring solutions.
