Adding Wavefront Analysis to MTF Metrology – Improved Image Quality Assessment of Lenses
Presented by:
Stephan Marschner, TRIOPTICSIn this presentation, Marschner will highlight the combination of wavefront measurement with MTF testing in one system. A sophisticated wavefront analysis as a complement to the established MTF measurement technology, enables a more comprehensive qualification of the imaging performance of lenses.
The combination of MTF with on- and off-axis wavefront measurement in one instrument enables a more complete image quality assessment and in-depth lens qualification. Marschner will explain a new approach of adding precise wavefront analysis to standard MTF measurement to increase lens manufacturing yield and improve quality control. Moreover, the focus is on diagnostic information regarding the type and nature of present aberrations that cause MTF requirements to be unmet. Adding wavefront analysis to MTF measurement enables the detection of image quality defects that would have remained undetected by measuring bidirectional MTF.
While obtaining wavefront information typically requires dedicated instruments such as interferometers or Shack-Hartmann sensors, this presentation will show how wavefront measurement can be combined with existing MTF test equipment using a phase retrieval technique. This new capability will enable wavefront testing on- and off-axis across the entire image plane within a broad wavelength range. Going beyond standard MTF data in this way provides deeper insights into lens aberrations.
