Overview of The Imaging Industry: Innovation Never Ends
Presented by:
Axel Clouet, Yole GroupCMOS image sensors have been steadily expanding their reach for decades, driving a $23.4 billion market in 2024. Primarily developed for photography, these components have evolved into highly efficient sensors used in a wide range of computer vision applications, such as robotics, biometric authentication, or automotive safety. The broadening of use cases has driven continuous improvements in resolution, dynamic range, compactness and power consumption - sometimes enabled by new manufacturing techniques such as wafer stacking.
At the same time, the imaging industry has been witnessing a proliferation of innovations, with the emergence of new technologies such as event-based sensors, metasurfaces, and the growing adoption of 3D sensing and non-visible modalities. How is the imaging component market evolving? What does the competitive landscape look like? And what are the roadmaps for adopting new technologies? This presentation offers a comprehensive overview of the imaging industry dynamics.
About the presenter
Axel Clouet, Ph.D., is senior technology and market analyst for imaging at Yole Group.
He is a member of the Imaging team, contributing daily to technology and market analyses on various imaging technologies and participates in the production of the relevant Yole Group's products.
Previously, Clouet obtained an master of science degree from Grenoble Institute of Technology (FR) and a doctorate from the University of Grenoble (FR) in collaboration with CEA-LETI, where he worked on color and noise aspects in CMOS image sensors. He is the author of various scientific papers and conference presentations.
