About This Webinar
The optical performance of optical coatings is only half of the picture. A coating that is perfectly manufactured to meet its optical specifications is useless unless it also meets the application's required environmental durability.

The tasks of defining durability, testing durability, and making sure coatings remain durable over the years are not as straightforward as defining and testing optical qualities. Joseph and Yadlovker discuss the durability of optical coatings intended for long-time usage in extreme environments (temperatures, chemicals, and mechanical environments), and they provide relevant examples.

About the presenters

Shay JosephShay Joseph, Ph.D., received a B.Sc. in chemical engineering and M.Sc. and doctorate degrees in materials science and engineering from Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.

After graduating from Technion, Joseph began his professional career at Rafael Optical Components and became the head of the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) department, where ZnS windows and domes are grown. He later became the head of R&D for the department. He has initiated and led many projects and collaborated with other world-leading institutions in the field, spending two decades studying, developing, and manufacturing optical coatings, subwavelength structures, optical materials, and components. He has focused his research on characterization of thin optical films and coatings specifically designed for extreme environments and high-power applications. Joseph has authored and co-authored tens of scientific papers and is a scientific committee member for SPIE’s Optical Fabrication, Testing, and Metrology conference. Joseph is currently the CTO of the Manor Division Production Plant.

Doron YadlovkerDoron Yadlovker, Ph.D., is the head of Rafael's Optical Components Center, which designs, develops, and produces optical elements and assemblies for numerous systems exposed to severe environmental conditions. He holds a doctorate in materials science and engineering; a B.Sc. in materials science and engineering, summa cum laude; and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, summa cum laude, from Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Yadlovker has more than 15 years of experience in optical coatings, components, and assemblies. He is an adjunct lecturer in the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at Technion.
