Line-Scan Cameras Improve Imaging Application Efficiency

Presentation will begin: Wednesday, July 19, 2023 - 3:25 PM EDT
Presented by: Dale Deering, Teledyne Imaging

Line-scan cameras continue to lead the industry in speed and resolution, but how can they impact application efficiency? As takt-times shrink and process speeds increase, utilizing the natural data-streaming of line-scan imaging can reduce processing times, memory allocation, and transfers, improving the efficiency of image processing algorithms. Processing can start immediately without waiting for a full frame of data, reducing latency for quicker decision-making. This results in better yield and accuracy.

Rapid object motion can be an advantage because it’s not necessary to stop object motion to get a good image since line-scan cameras capture superior images of fast-moving objects even in resolutions up to 32k wide. Line-scan also captures multiple color samples per pixel, eliminating aliasing artifacts caused by Bayer color filter patterns. Recent advances with contact image sensors make line-scan cameras even easier to use than in the past.
