Janelle Shane, Meadowlark OpticsMicroscopes can change objectives or filters at the twist of a wheel – but large reconfigurations are also possible in a fraction of a second with no moving parts. Spatial light modulators (SLMs) provide 2D programmable phase control, acting as lenses, gratings, axicons, waveplates, and more, in endlessly remixable combinations.
This presentation will overview the emerging and creative ways SLMs are being used in microscopy, from 3D steering photostimulation beams to creating new resolution-enhancing beam shapes.
About the presenter
As a senior scientist at Meadowlark Optics, Jannelle Shane, Ph.D., specializes in the development and application of high-speed and high-power spatial light modulators. Shane earned a doctorate in photonics from the University of California, San Diego, an master of philosophy degree in Physics from the University of St Andrews, and a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Michigan State University.
