Filters are an extremely simple and cost-effective optical component capable of producing exceptional imaging results in a wide range of vision applications operating across the spectrum — from deep UV through the visible, out to the longwave infrared (IR). Simply put, filters serve as a vital method for obtaining high-quality imaging results with greater consistency and repeatability from your vision system, regardless of the wavelength range the application operates in. Das provides an overview of the various machine vision filter categories commonly used in new, emerging vision applications. These include dual- and triple-bandpass filters for use in day and night surveillance and NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index) imaging.
