New Technologies for Nanoscale Mapping of Centimeter-Scale Tissues

Presented by: Adam Glaser, Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics

Light-sheet microscopy has emerged as the technique of choice for fast in vivo and ex vivo imaging of biological systems and processes. The selection of the objective lens and camera is a critical decision that dictates the resolution, field of view, working distance, imaging speed, and overall capability of any light-sheet microscopy system.

Historically, nearly every light-sheet microscope has selected these two technologies from the life sciences domain. However, there are extremely powerful technologies that have been developed by the adjacent electronics metrology industry.

In this talk, Glaser highlights and explores the available technologies from this industry and how they can be leveraged to design new, powerful light-sheet microscopy systems.

About the presenter
Adam GlaserAdam Glaser, Ph.D., joined the Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics in 2021. He works in the multi-scale molecular neuroanatomy group, focusing on developing hardware and software tools for large-scale imaging projects. Prior to joining the institute, Glaser worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington, where he is now an affiliate assistant professor. There he worked in Jonathan Liu’s laboratory, leading the development of open-top light-sheet microscopy systems for three-dimensional clinical pathology. He earned his doctorate in engineering sciences from Dartmouth College in 2015, and bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Tufts University in 2010.LinkedIn
